The evolutionary vision for C. Baldwin, formerly the DoubleTree Hotel is coming to Allen Center. As you may recall, Brookfield Properties acquired the hotel in late 2016 with plans for a full rebrand and renovation, which were revealed this month.
The renovated 354-room hotel will feature stylishly inspired guestrooms, stunning common areas, a signature restaurant, an activated greenspace, 14,000 square feet of state-of-the-art meeting and event space, and much more. Brookfield Properties tapped the internationally acclaimed Lauren Rottet of Houston-based Rottet Studio as well as Kate Rohrer of ROHE Creative to lead the design efforts.

The hotel’s new name revives the legacy and honors Charlotte Baldwin Allen, the Mother of Houston, who used her inheritance to finance the City of Houston. Charlotte was married to Augustus Chapman (A.C.) Allen, the New York real estate speculator who officially co-founded Houston with his brother, John Kirby Allen. Our campus bears the Allen name.

She had a pivotal role in the city’s early evolution as she became the primary financial driver of Houston’s entire construction industry, bankrolling the navy, and building the Capitol of the Republic of Texas. Charlotte also donated public land, including the site used for the first City Hall (now Downtown’s Market Square Park) and countless plots to civic organizations.
C. Baldwin, located on Dallas Street immediately adjacent to Allen Center, is expected to open in summer 2019.
